First Time in India: Graduation in Civil Services
An Incredible Initiative by the Vishv Umiya Foundation
(UPSC - GPSC Graduation Degree)
Hello, friends!
"What should students do after the 12th grade?"
This is a question that weighs on everyone’s mind.
This issue is discussed in every single household. Because the moment a child enters the 10th grade, families begin debating: What will he or she do after the 12th? Where will he or she get admission? These discussions happen at home every day. For a student determined to be a doctor, it is settled that they will seek admission to medical school; those who want to be builders will enroll in Civil Engineering; and those who wish to be businessmen can choose any faculty. However, for those who dream of becoming a government officer, there has never been a specific degree course. It is for this very reason that the Vishv Umiya Foundation has designed a four-year degree program starting this year titled "Graduation in Civil Services"In this program, your entire four years of study will be focused exclusively on the requirements of the Civil Services.
To make this possible, the Vishv Umiya Foundation has signed M.O.U. with both Swaminarayan University, Kalol, and the Institute of Advanced Research University, Gandhinagar. This course will be offered at both universities. Therefore, if you aspire to become an officer under the UPSC or GPSC, this course is designed specifically for you. Starting this year, a new undergraduate course is being launched under the name Bachelor of Arts in Civil Services (B.A. Civil Services).
Course Objective: The primary goal of this course is to prepare students for Civil Service examinations (such as UPSC and GPSC) so they can build prestigious careers in India's administrative services. This course is open to students from all academic streams—Arts, Commerce, and Science—providing a significant opportunity for everyone.
Curriculum: This is a degree-level course. It includes subjects such as History, Geography, Political Science, Economics, Indian Constitution, General Science, and Current Affairs. In addition to these subjects, students will receive specialised training in writing skills, analytical ability, and interview preparation. The program will feature workshops, mock tests, and guest lectures, along with direct guidance from UPSC/GPSC toppers and industry experts. Students have the option to study in Gujarati, Hindi or English mediums, which will significantly simplify their preparation for the competitive exams.
Previous Provisions and Challenges: Previously, many students had to rely entirely on self-study for Civil Service examinations. They would typically begin their preparation only after completing a graduation degree in another stream, which often took an additional two to three years. Because of this, many students got frustrated. While government institutions like SPIPA provide training, their seats are limited. Particularly, students from rural areas faced a lack of proper guidance and resources. There was a lack of awareness regarding the exam syllabus and preparation strategies. The high fees of private coaching were not affordable for financially weak students. Due to the vast and diverse syllabus of the Civil Service exams, students found it difficult to understand and set priorities. If a student did not succeed in the Civil Service exam, they lacked a clear direction for alternative career options.
This new Civil Service undergraduate course solves these problems in the following ways:
- Structured Guidance: This course is designed with the Civil Service exam syllabus in mind. It provides students with a clear direction and guidance right from the beginning. Practical guidance is provided by expert teachers, former civil servants, and UPSC/GPSC toppers.
- Reduction in Cost: Compared to private coaching, the fees for this university course are affordable. Furthermore, merit-based scholarships and government financial aid assist students from economically weaker backgrounds.
- Saving of Time: This undergraduate-level course integrates Civil Service preparation with degree studies. Thus, students do not need 2-3 years of separate preparation after graduation, which saves time.
- Multi-Lingual Study: This course is available in Gujarati, Hindi, and English mediums. This removes linguistic barriers for rural students and increases the availability of study materials in the Gujarati medium.
- Multi-Dimensional Skill Development: In this course, focus is placed on aspects like writing skills, analytical ability, and interview preparation, which are useful for all stages of the Civil Service examination. Through workshops, mock tests, and seminars, students’ confidence and practical knowledge are enhanced.
- Other Career Options: Even if students are not successful in the Civil Service, they have alternative career options in fields such as NGOs, General Management, Journalism, and Education, thanks to the subjects taught (like Political Science, Economics, History) and skills acquired (analysis, leadership, communication).
- Accessibility (All streams): This course is open to students of all streams (Arts, Commerce, Science), giving opportunities to a larger number of youths. Through the university platform, this course is accessible to students from both rural and urban areas.
This course is ideal for students who are interested in IAS, IPS, and IFS Civil Service exams. Students from any academic background can join, and they gain opportunities in fields beyond the Civil Service.
Conclusion: This new Civil Service course plays an important role in overcoming previous challenges such as lack of guidance, expensive preparation, loss of time, and linguistic barriers. This course provides students with an opportunity for comprehensive preparation, increasing their chances of success in the Civil Service. Additionally, the availability of other career options provides students with a secure future. This new course is a unique opportunity for the youth of Gujarat, which can take their career to new heights while serving the nation. If you dream of social service and leadership, then this course is just for you. Apply and give a new shape to your future.
